"Service in the
Community", "Justice on the Job"
Let's level the playing field!
Union members earn 28% more than
non-union workers in wages alone, (if you include benefits,
it's 36% more)! Paychecks for women with a union contract are
30% higher than for women without a union.
African-American union members make 37% more than their
non-union counterparts. For Hispanic union members,
wages are 55% higher. What about benefits?
Fully 86% of all union members are
covered by health care plans. And the union plans are
more than twice as good as the non-union plans, government
studies show. What about pensions?
90% of all union members are covered
by pension plans, and 79% of those plans are "defined benefit"
pensions, meaning they are both government insured and provide
a quaranteed monthly pension payment. Only 76% of
non-union workers have any sort of pension plan at all, and
only 42% are covered by the higher quality (and more costly)
"defined benefit" plans. What about disability coverage?
Union membership can make a big
difference if you are injured and out of work. Nearly
75% of all union workers are covered by short-term disability
plans, compared to only 50% of the non-union workforce.
What about paid leave?
Union workers enjoy 68% more paid
leave than non-union workers, according to the government.
The value of paid leave for a union worker is $1.92 an hour,
compared to $1.31 for a non-union worker. That means
more paid time at home or with the family, when you want it
and when you need it! |
